|Abstract: ||Four adult mousedeer were subjected to detailed anatomical dissection. Mean muscle weights and muscle percentages of 94 individual muscles are reported. The mean dressing percentage of 62.1% was greater than that reported for ox, buffalo and goat. The carcasses had a high proportion of muscles (83.83%), low proportion of bone (15.03%) and insignificant amount of fat. This was reflected by a large ratio of muscle-bone 5.6:1. Muscle weight distribution showed that the mousedeer had a higher proportion of total muscle than bulls for 'standard muscle groups' (SMG) 1,2,3,4. Indices of the SMG's of mousedeers relative to cattle were as follows: 1(112), 2(149), 3(168), 4(122), 5(68), 6(61), 7(60), 8(78) and 9(62) 'Agility' and 'locomotion' indices were 105 and 98 respectively.|
